Service Description

Personalized HEMA training session to fit your specific needs as a fencer. Focused on the Liechtenauer tradition of Longsword. This format will most frequently involve me giving you the information (theory) and working with you practically (drills) on only 1 well-defined topic from the Longsword corpus. Usually focused on 1 technique/biomechanic or at maximum a few (2-3-4) related techniques/biomechanics. The exception to the above is if we both agree on a Presentation instead of drill-oriented work. In which case you accept that you are interested only in seeing various Longsword topics presented and demonstrated by me, with your participation, but without time allotted for you to drill and assimilate them. Regardless of whether we're doing drill-work or I am just presenting, the topic will be decided with at least 2 weeks in advance (ideally 3 weeks), and agreed upon in writing, by email, by both parties. This ensures that I will have time to prepare and customize your lesson and not waste time on things that are irrelevant to you. This 1-on-1 format also implies that I, as the Instructor, am not responsible to exhaustively teach you all of the prerequisites that you need to have in your skill and knowledge set. I am only hired to do my best in transferring the theoretical knowledge and improving the skills that pertain to the specific topic we chose together. In order to optimize the process as much as possible, I might ask you to provide in advance some videos of you in sparring or at your regular lessons (if you attend an organized club or study group). Or I might even ask you to create a few ad-hoc videos before our lesson, of you performing certain fencing actions or techniques that are prerequisites for the topic we are going to work on. I am also open to using this 1-on-1 format for a progression of lessons instead of a one-off topic. But we must both agree on this in writing, at least 1 month in advance. And you must make a commitment for the full series of lessons.
